Flooring Installation in Gold Coast
Posted on 06.09.2021
We did this job of hybrid flooring installation for a customer who recently moved from Melbourne to Gold Coast.
They called me and asked if I can manage this project before they move to Gold Coast.
The neighbor was the first point to contact to arrange a property inspection.
Property Inspection
The home is located in Robina, Gold Coast, a gated community two-level modern home. The customer did not want flooring installation on a second level but wanted staircases done. The first level already had the carpet removed. The middle of the property had tile flooring.
The was a high difference between rooms floor and tile floor. The tile was about 12mm higher.
Deciding on flooring material
I did necessarily measurements. The customer was not sure if he wanted a laminate floor or hybrid flooring. After a long talk and very few messages, we decided to go with Quick-Step Pulse Hybrid flooring.
Subfloor preparation
I did a subfloor check to determine if levelling requires or not. I talked to the customer and discussed the job scope. He clearly said he wants a flat floor all over. I offered two options. Concrete subfloor and tile floor were required leveling. We agreed to do flood levelling in rooms and over tile.
The problem
After we agreed on floor levelling, I ran into the problem. The customer just bought a new fridge that was few millimeters off cabinetry in hights. So the leveling over the tile was not the option anymore. So the tile flooring had to go.
The scope of the job
Found all the problems and agreed on all the details. We have finally settled on the job tasks.
Which included:
- Tile removal
- Аloor levelling
- Hybrid flooring installation
- Hybrid flooring installation on stairs
Tile removal
The tile flooring removal is a dirty and challenging job. But when it has to go, it has to go. The was about 65 sqm of tile to lift and dispose of. After tile removal, I had to grind tile mortar to ensure the subfloor is ready for levelling. Tile removal and grinding took me two days to complete. The next spet is floor levelling
Floor Levelling
I had to prepare a concrete subfloor for hybrid flooring installation. This flooring type must be installed onto a precisely flat surface to meet the warranty and for the best performance. Considering the condition of the subfloor, the full flood levering was a choice of preparation. I primmed the floor with Mapei Prim T Plus and performed full flood leveling the next day. I used Mapei Ultraplan Eco. The next day the subfloor is ready for Quick-Step Pulse Hybrid Flooring installation.
Hybrid Flooring Installation
The customer has chosen Quick Step, Pulse Hybrid Flooring, Sea Breeze Oak Natural. The amazing flooring to work with and lovely performance. I laid 120 sqm that included three bedrooms, a large living area, kitchen, and walkway. This task took me two days to complete. One thing to mention I removed the existing skirting boards and reinstalled them over the new hybrid flooring. And that gave a great completed look for the entire area. In addition, customers have chosen quick step incizo color-matched finishing trims to cover gaps by the sliding and entry doors. That added an absolute finishing touch! So the floor is done, time to move on for stairs.
Hybrid flooring installation on stairs
The customer decided to order custom-made stair nosings. The Quick-Step offers this solution to anyone who wants to have a perfect finishing touch, and it does look great. However, installing floating flooring on staircases is a no-rush job that requires much detailing attention.
The stair took me 1.5 days to complete in full.
The job was completed.
