How Can You Repair Any Cracked Floor Tiles?

If several floors or counter tiles are cracked either due to normal wear and tear or due to certain heavy objects were dropped on them, it is necessary to replace your cracked tile. If replacement of a tile is not within your budget, or the tile is not so badly damaged then you can also repair it.

Sometimes there can be a thin hairline crack that you can easily fill with an epoxy. As a DIY option, you can also try using wood glue or nail polish. In case, the tile is badly cracked and is beyond repair, you must replace the damaged tile.

In this article, we shall briefly discuss how to repair cracked floor tiles.

  1. Paint over the cracks

If you notice any small, hairline cracks on your tile, then you can easily repair them. However, we will call it more a cover-up rather than an actual repair. You will need paint that is closely resembling the colour of the tile.

You can also ask any employee working at a paint store who can also help by mixing an exact match as per the colour of your tile if you just bring your sample tile. Also, alternatively, you may paint entirely your tile floor with a new colour.

You must apply it on the crack by using a cotton swab and then let it get dry for a moment before wiping away any excess by using a damp cloth.

  1. Apply glaze

Also, this method will not fix your broken tile’s appearance, however, it can fill the crack and also prevent further damage. You can combine this method with the first method to get the best effect. This method can be a little bigger investment because you have to glaze the entire tiles to match with the repaired tile.

Thoroughly clean the area first then wipe or mop more than once if needed. Any remaining dirt may become often permanently get trapped under the glaze. You must wait so that the tile may get dry before you apply the glaze.

Most people prefer a clear glaze since it will go with all colours of grout and tile, but coloured glazes are also available. You must open a window for avoiding inhaling fumes, after that quickly apply the glaze before it dries.

  1. Replace the tile

In some cases, the crack can be too large on your tile, in that case, the only choice left with you will be to replace the tile. However, before trying this method, you must ensure that you can find an exact replacement of the tile in size, colour, and shape.

  1. Repair the tile with nail polish

If there is any excess amount of fingernail polish on the tile then you can use any nail polish remover. It is easy to repair if accidentally too much nail polish has gone on the surface of your tile. All that you need to do is just pour a little amount of nail polish remove it on a gauze cotton swab. Smear your cotton swab across excess nail polish 5 to 6 times for removing it.
